Episode 58: Samara Sterling, Ph.D.

Dr. Samara Sterling joined The Peanut Institute in May 2018 with specialties in nutrition science and clinical leadership and expertise in the use of plant-based nutrition for the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases. In her current role, she manages the research funded by The Peanut Institute and industry partners. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Stony Brook University, a master’s degree from Andrews University and a Ph.D. from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Prior to joining The Peanut Institute, Dr. Sterling worked as a researcher on a National Cancer Institute study where she studied the effects of nut consumption on health outcomes in a rural community. She has also served as a nutrition consultant for various community-based research projects in Alabama.

Active in the research community, she is a reviewer for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Preventing Chronic Disease Journal, as well as the Journal of Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities. She also enjoys being involved in her church and local community, having served as both a missionary for the STRIDE missionary group and a Health and Wellness Director for the Birmingham International SDA Church.

During this episode, Dr Sterling and I discuss plant-based diets and how eating peanuts can help entrepreneurs and busy people stay healthy under pressure.

Episode 56: Mozart Dixon

Mozart Dixon was raised in Lincoln, NE and currently serves as the co-Lead planter and pastor of Citylight Lincoln Church. His church is part of a movement of churches throughout Nebraska, Iowa, and Missouri.  Moe primarily focuses on the vision, leadership development, and city engagement of the church. Outside of this, Moe loves spending his time as the husband to Colleen and father of their 4 children. Moe has a passion to love his family and his city well.

During this episode, Mozart and I spoke about the similarities between startup founders and church planters, how to heal in the midst of tragedy, and how he stays healthy under pressure as a husband, father and leader.

Episode 56: Matthew Helt

Matthew Helt is the Global Director of Techstars Startup Week, an event that catalyzes and celebrates startup ecosystems all around the world. To do this, he works with grassroots organizers to bring the event to cities large and small. In addition to his community building work, Matthew is also an advocate for mental health awareness and volunteers as an advisor for Open Labs, an organization seeking to end the stigma of mental illness. Having struggled with a lifetime of mental illness himself, he now speaks about the importance of founders seeking help right away to avoid the problems he encountered.

Amee Yost is proud to be a Nebraska native, born and raised in Omaha. She currently works as the founder of a soon-to-be-named coaching company that helps clients downsize and declutter. Amee blogs about simplicity, decluttering, and community development on Medium. Outside of this, Amee spends much of her time as a mom to two busy grade school aged kids. She is the wife of an entrepreneur who currently operates two startups, Method Mark & Populus. Amee has a passion to serve her neighborhood, friends, and church by building community.

Episode 50: Jill Moline

Jill Moline started working in her parent’s grocery store in 1979. While following her husband, Brad’s career changes, she worked for the Lenexa, KS Chamber of Commerce, sold office supplies in Kansas City, and was a member of an artist cooperative in KC until returning to her favorite job as a grocery checker. In 2002, Jill and her husband returned to Imperial, Nebraska and Jill purchased her parent’s business. Today Jill is the owner and operator of Canopy Street Market in Lincoln, Nebraska which opened in August of 2018. Most recently, Jill was awarded the Trailblazer Award from the Downtown Lincoln Association.
